STAND-UP COMEDY COMES TO THE VPAC WITH CRAIG SHOEMAKER ON TUESDAY NIGHT

December 27, 2010 ( BEAVER CREEK, Colorado) — Audiences will be treated to a healthy dose of laughter therapy when comedian Craig Shoemaker takes the stage at 7:30pm on Tuesday, December 28 at the Vilar Performing Arts Center (VPAC) in Beaver Creek.

What began as a career began doing impressions of co-workers and celebrities while working at a Philadelphia law firm – has grown into a passion, an enterprise and a way of life for Craig Shoemaker.

Shoemaker might best be known for his “Lovemaster” routine, but his real forte is impersonation of characters, both real and imaginary, from his life (as a father to three boys) and television.  In addition to his success with stand-up comedy, Shoemaker is also a veteran of TV (Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime), satellite radio and film.  His movie credits include “Scream 2,” “Safe House,” and “Dark Honeymoon.”

American Comedy Awards named Shoemaker “Comedian of the Year,” he’s also received two Emmy awards and his half-hour Comedy Central special was voted by viewers a on the network’s “Top 20” stand-up specials of all time.   But, Shoemaker is more than an award-winning funny guy … he’s also a comedian with heart.  Shoemaker started the Laughter Heals Foundation, with a mission to provide an easily accessible supply of “laughter therapy” materials for patients, residents and care givers in hospitals, cancer recovery facilities, children’s hospitals, nursing homes, etc.

Currently, Shoemaker is producing and writing a feature documentary called “Live to Laugh: along with Mark Harris (“Crash,” “Gods & Monsters”) and Dr. Michael Beckwith (“The Secret,” “Oprah”.)

Fellow comedian Rich Aronovitch will open the not-to-miss evening of comedy at the VPAC.  As with most comedy shows, some material may not be suitable for audiences of all ages.

Tickets for An Evening with Craig Shoemaker: “The Lovemaster” are $40 and are available online at www.vilarpac.org, by calling 970.845.TIXS (8497) or in person at the box office in Beaver Creek. The Vilar Performing Arts Center is a project of the Vail Valley Foundation.

Teg Ligety Wins 1st Place in Giant Slalom

Teg Ligety Wins 1st Place in Giant Slalom

The excitment of watching Teg Ligety, US Ski Team member, win the Giant Slalom on Sunday at Beaver Creek’s Birds of Prey World Cup races is like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Ligety was leading the pack after the 1st round of giant slalom runs Sunday morning, but a group of tough competitors tested the course, and Ligety’s time as the 2nd round of runs unfolded.

After a tough weekend for the US Ski Team members, including a series of missed gates during Saturday’s Super G race, Ligety put on an impressive performance on Sunday.

This is Ligety’s only first-place spot on the podium after second, third, and forth place finishes over the past 3 winter seasons. Giant Slalom is Ligety’s event however, with 6 1st place victories in his carreer.

Ligety beat Kjetil Kansrud of Norway by 82 hundreths of a second while Austria’s Marcel Hirscher took third.

Moose Spotted in Lionshead, Vail

A moose and her baby running through Lionshead

Looks like hikers aren’t the only ones out an about during these beautiful fall days!

A local Vail resident spotted a moose and her daughter trotting through Lionshead this morning. Moose are common in Colorado, but not usually seen in the more developed parts of town.

If you see a moose, make sure to view it from a distance, and under no curcimstance should you approach it, offer it food, or provoke it. Moose and incredibly beautiful animals, but are very territorial.

Fall is a great time to get outside and enjoy the moose and other local animals. Bears, deer, and elk are all saving up for the winter so are out looking for food on the mountains.

If you see any Colorado animals, please send your photos to chanks@eastwestresorts.com and we’ll post them at our front desk, on our blog, and our social media sites.

DREAM BECOMES REALITY AS 2015 BEAVER CREEK/VAIL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS BID COMES UP A WINNER AT FIS CONGRESS IN TURKEY

ANTALYA, Turkey—The road to the 2015 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships will run right through the Vail Valley as the International Ski Federation (FIS) Council voted to award the 2015 Championships to Beaver Creek/Vail by a vote of eight, defeating both Cortina, Italy and St. Moritz, Switzerland to host the event at the congress in Turkey today.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be able to represent the United States and the Vail Valley through this victory,” explained Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation.  “We knew from the outset that we had our work cut out for us with three world class candidates and only one 2015 Alpine World Championships.  We congratulate St. Moritz and Cortina on their campaigns and it was truly an honor to be considered along with these great resorts.  We can’t wait to get home and share this with our community.”
Beaver Creek/Vail garnered the absolute majority in the first round of votes, recording eight votes to Cortina’s four and St. Moritz’s three.
“Our nation is deeply honored to have been selected as the site of the 2015 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships,” said U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO Bill Marolt. “It will be a great opportunity to expand participation in our sport nationwide through Beaver Creek/Vail’s Engaging New Worlds program and to showcase our talented U.S. Ski Team athletes. We look forward to working with our strong partner, the Vail Valley Foundation, to produce a World Championships that is successful both athletically and as a catalyst for continued growth in our sport.”
“We want to thank everyone throughout the Vail Valley community that supported us in this bid process,” concluded John Garnsey, president of Vail Resorts.  “This is the beginning of a new and exciting journey for all of us.”
